Inside Steve Martin’s whopping net worth – from the sold-out shows to the big screen

Comedian Steve Martin scored his first entertainment credit in 1969 after winning an Emmy writing for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Since then, his career has included massive standup shows, television and film appearances, and an acclaimed memoir.
In 2024, Martin’s personal net worth is estimated at $140 million. 
Martin entered his prime standup years in the mid-1970s and continued touring until 1981. 
The comedian has toured since this time doing shows with other entertainers, like Martin Short, but he hasn’t performed standup consistently since 1981.
In his memoir Born Standing Up, which sold over 15 million copies worldwide and is available in more than 50 languages, Martin wrote: “My [standup] act was conceptual.

“Once the concept was stated, and everybody understood it, it was done [in 1981],” Slate reports.
Martin has published 11 other books in addition to Born Standing Up. 
Before stopping performing standup, Martin had already begun acting in movies, like The Jerk in 1979, which grossed over $100 million worldwide.

During the 1980s, Martin acted in movies like Three Amigos and Planes, Trains, & Automobiles before starring in 17 films in the 1990s.
In addition to acting and performing comedy, Martin has toured extensively as a musician playing banjo, most notably with singer and songwriter Edie Brickell, Paul Simon’s wife. 
Martin won a Grammy in the Best American Roots Song category in 2014 for Love Has Come For You, which he made in collaboration with Brickell.
